1. Building Codes and Project Requirements
Before designing your building, it's important to understand the local codes and requirements that apply to your project. Most counties and municipalities have building regulations that govern factors such as wind loads, snow loads, occupancy and structural design.
You should also review any HOA or deed restrictions that may affect your building's size, appearance or placement.
Our team can help ensure your building is engineered to meet the requirements for its location and intended use.
Things to consider:
- Local building codes and permit requirements
- Wind, snow and seismic load requirements
- Property setbacks and zoning regulations
- Neighborhood or HOA restrictions
- Building occupancy and intended use
2. Designing Your Building
One of the greatest advantages of a metal building is the flexibility to customize it for your specific needs. During the design process, you'll work with a Mueller representative to determine the size, layout and features that best fit your project.
What Should You Consider When Designing a Metal Building?
Every project is different, but some of the most important factors include:
Building Size: Consider your current needs as well as future growth. Planning for additional storage, equipment or workspace now can help avoid costly expansions later.
Building Use: The intended use of the building influences everything from door placement and insulation requirements to structural design and interior layout.
Location & Environment: Your geographic location impacts engineering requirements and may influence design choices such as roof style, panel selection and insulation systems.
Access & Functionality: Consider how people, vehicles and equipment will move through the building. Proper door sizes, placement and clear spans can improve efficiency and usability.
Appearance: Choose colors, panel styles and trim options that complement your property and achieve the look you're after.
